Reflective pinstripe is a great idea on cars and mortorcycles. It can save a biker's life at night because it helps motorists spot you in the dark. Pinstriping and reflective tape draws attention to cars and trucks, too. It looks very cool in the daytime and lights up your vehicle at night. Follow these steps to install pinstriping or reflective tape on a car or motorcycle.
Step1 Clean your vehicle, removing any tar, dirt or other contaminants. After washing it, run you hands along it, feeling for tar bumps. Remove them with a tar removal solvent to keep the pinstriping from bubbling.
Step2 Use the "mark, stick, tug and tap" technique. This will make your straight and curved lines as perfect as possible.
Step3 Mark where you want the tape to start and end. If you want to run pinstriping along the entire side of the car, mark it off in sections. Stick a small piece of masking tape to mark the spots.
Step4 Stick the pinstripe at the starting point. Check it to make sure it's level with the line you want it to follow. Pull the backing off the pinstriping. Tug the tape gently and hold the other end of it above the end point. Remember not to stretch the tape too much or it will crack.
Step5 Move toward the mark point and you'll see the pinstriping begin to attach itself to your vehicle. That's because most car body's have a slight curve out. The tape is touching, but is barely attached at this point. Know this is the time to re-lift the tape and try again, if needed.
Step6 Make curved lines the same way, except you raise or lower the the height of the working point as you lower the pinstriping to the vehicle's body.
Step7 Tap the tape down into place once you're sure that's where you want the pinstriping to be. Use your fingertips to gently tap it into place.
